How to use engine coolant
Many customers often ask me how long the service life of the diesel generator set is. In fact, the service life of the diesel generator set is not a fixed value. Its service life is determined by our maintenance. If the maintenance is done properly, the service life will be long. The author introduces the use of coolant for engine maintenance.
In addition to the cooling function, the engine coolant of modern diesel generator sets must also solve the four major problems of cavitation corrosion, chemical corrosion, electrochemical corrosion and scale. The coolant is a mixture of water and antifreeze. Due to different sources of water, its composition and cleanliness are also different. Therefore, pay attention to the following aspects when filling coolant.
1. Do not add well water and sewage. Water can be divided into hard water and soft water according to whether it has dissolved minerals. Hard water contains iron, calcium and magnesium plasma. Untreated well water and spring water belong to hard water. If such hard water is added to the engine, calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate and other compounds will be produced after the engine is heated and evaporated, and precipitated to form scale. On the one hand, the scale is a bad conductor of heat; on the other hand, when the scale increases to a certain extent, the pipeline will be narrowed and the water flow will be reduced, which will affect the heat dissipation of the engine and cause the engine to overheat. The sewage contains sediment and rotten organic matter, which is easy to corrode the water tank and cylinder water jacket, affecting its service life.
2. Don't ignore me. Some engines are filled with long-term coolant. After working for a period of time, the water tank cover should be opened for inspection. In case of water pollution, rust and sediment in the water tank, the coolant should be replaced in time.
3. Do not run without water. When driving in hot weather, the evaporation of the coolant in the water tank is accelerated. Always check the coolant volume and observe the coolant temperature gauge. If the water tank is not fully filled, there is a problem in the circulation of the coolant in the water jacket, and the water temperature is easy to rise, resulting in "boiling". For some models, it is not easy to fill up when adding water. The water tank is lower than the engine. When adding water, the water inlet of the water tank shows that it has been filled up, but in fact, the water jacket of the engine is short of water. If the vehicle is driven rashly, the water tank is easy to "boil". For this type of vehicle, the correct method is to start the engine after the water filling port shows full. When the engine temperature rises to the opening of the thermostat, the water level will drop after the air in the water jacket is discharged, and then the water tank can be filled. For cars, the coolant level should be between the "high" line and the "low" line on the outer surface of the compensation bucket.
4. When the water tank is "boiling", do not open the cover rashly. This is because the temperature in the water tank is very high (at least 100 ℃) and the pressure is high when the water tank lid is suddenly opened, the boiling water and steam will be rapidly sprayed out, which is easy to scald the water dispenser. In case of "boiling", it is generally required to run at idle speed, and then open the cover to fill the coolant after the engine temperature drops. If the time is urgent, cover the water tank cover with a wet cloth, then wrap your hands with a wet towel, and then slowly open the water tank cover. In addition, the speed of adding coolant should not be too fast, and it should be added slowly.
5. Do not spill water on the engine when adding water. When adding water, if water is sprinkled on the spark plug socket, high-voltage wire socket and distributor of the engine, it may affect the fire jump; Water splashing on the drive belt may also cause it to slip; Spilled on the body may also cause deformation or even crack of the body.
6. Do not forget to add antifreeze to the coolant. Some drivers think that there is no need to add antifreeze to the coolant in summer. This idea is wrong. The antifreeze can prevent the coolant from boiling prematurely, improve the boiling point of the coolant, and prevent the water tank from "boiling" prematurely. In addition, antifreeze also contains rust inhibitor and foam inhibitor. Antirust agent can delay or prevent the corrosion and corrosion of engine water jacket wall and radiator. The air in the coolant will produce a lot of foam under the agitation of the water pump impeller, and these foam will hinder the heat dissipation of the water jacket wall. Foam inhibitor can effectively inhibit the generation of foam.
7. Do not touch antifreeze. Antifreeze and its additives are toxic substances, please do not touch them and put them in a safe place. The discharged coolant should not be reused, and the waste coolant should be disposed of in strict accordance with relevant regulations. 8. Do not mix different types of antifreeze. Otherwise, it is easy to cause chemical reaction, generate precipitation or bubbles, and reduce the use effect. When replacing the coolant, clean the cooling system with clean water before adding new antifreeze and water. The name of the remaining antifreeze solution shall be marked on the container to avoid confusion.
